Unveiling the Essence of Urban Existence

The Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad is proud to present the captivating photographic exhibition titled "Hidden/Hiding" by the Moroccan artist Abdellah El Bahmidi, who currently resides in Austria. This remarkable exhibition is scheduled to run from October 15 to November 12, 2026, at the Difaf Gallery located within the foundation's headquarters in Rabat. The opening ceremony is set for October 15, commencing at 6:30 PM, where attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet the artist himself.

El Bahmidi's black and white photographic series delves into the exploration of urban spaces while simultaneously addressing the themes of visibility and invisibility. The title "Hidden/Hiding" encapsulates a compelling tension between two closely related yet distinct concepts: that which is concealed and the act of concealing oneself. This thought-provoking exhibition invites viewers to reflect on what the images reveal and what they intentionally leave unspoken, offering a rich ground for interpretation.

Artistic Journey and Cultural Significance

Born in Azrou in 1946, Abdellah El Bahmidi has traversed various landscapes including Errachidia, Azrou, Aït Hdidou, and Paris, before settling in Vienna sixteen years ago. His professional background as a clinical psychologist saw him lead child protection institutions from 1976 until 2010. An avid photography enthusiast since 1970, he is also an adventurous cyclist, having embarked on numerous journeys including routes from Vienna to Tangier and Salzburg to Rome, among others.

This exhibition aligns with the foundation's mission to preserve and strengthen the connections between Moroccans worldwide and their homeland. It highlights the trajectories of creators, their artistic contributions, and their role in promoting Moroccan culture on an international stage. The Difaf Gallery serves as a dedicated space for showcasing the artistic creations of Moroccans abroad and fostering cultural dialogue, underscoring the vital role of art and culture in the transmission of values, knowledge, and heritage.
