The judicial police in the Tamansourt area, near Marrakech, have successfully dismantled the activities of a 'fake gendarme' following a security operation that led to his arrest in the city of Settat. This operation was triggered by the suspect's involvement in a case of impersonating a public officer and armed robbery, prompting a significant response from security forces in Marrakech and its surrounding areas.
The incident unfolded when the suspect utilized an official uniform to deceive his victims into believing he was a legitimate officer. He specifically targeted a retired teacher who was traveling from Ben Guerir to Marrakech, asking for assistance with "transportation." The victim complied, only for the journey to quickly escalate into a threatening situation.
Upon reaching a secluded area near the Grand Stadium of Marrakech, the assailant revealed his true intentions by brandishing a large knife at the driver. A struggle ensued, resulting in the teacher sustaining injuries to his hand. Under the duress of the threat, the victim was forced to abandon his vehicle, which the suspect then stole before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving the report, the judicial police in Tamansourt initiated a field investigation, bolstered by technical expertise. This included reviewing radar systems and surveillance camera footage to trace the path of the stolen vehicle and identify the suspect's stopping points, which ultimately revealed his escape route.
The investigation led to the identification of the suspect's location in the city of Settat, where he was apprehended around 2 AM, along with the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
The arrested individual is currently under police custody following instructions from the competent public prosecutor's office, which has ordered an in-depth investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his acquisition of the official uniform and to explore the possibility of other victims falling prey to his impersonation of this security role.
