FEDE's Grand Return to Morocco: A Milestone Global Assembly in Marrakech

FEDE's Impact on Moroccan Higher Education

The Fédération Européenne des Écoles (FEDE) marked a significant milestone by hosting its Annual General Assembly in Marrakech on April 22-23, 2026, returning to Morocco after a 15-year hiatus during which the event was exclusively held in Europe. This gathering not only reaffirms Morocco's vital role in the global higher education and vocational training sectors but also celebrates the impressive achievement of FEDE, which has graduated over 70,000 students in the country over the past two decades. This statistic underscores FEDE's strategic influence in enhancing the landscape of higher and professional education within Morocco.

The assembly convened representatives from more than 560 institutions across 44 countries, bringing together academic leaders, institutional representatives, and economic stakeholders to discuss the vital theme of 'transitions.' In an era characterized by rapid changes in educational, technological, and economic frameworks, the discussions at this assembly explored evolving pedagogical methods, digital transformations, and the socio-demographic and environmental challenges that are reshaping training models and skill requirements globally. This platform served as a beacon for innovation and collaboration, fostering dialogue on how to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the job market.

Strategic Significance and Future Directions

During the assembly, Claude Vivier Le Got highlighted Morocco's strategic importance within the FEDE network, noting that the nation accounts for nearly 10 percent of the network’s total membership and acts as a crucial bridge between Europe and Africa. The contributions from distinguished speakers, such as Raphaël Liogier and Javier Gómez Prieto, further enriched the proceedings, offering diverse insights into the ongoing transformations and future directions of the education sector, both within Morocco and on a global scale.

In addition to formal discussions, the event fostered collaboration among member institutions, promoting the exchange of best practices and the strengthening of partnerships. Moroccan institutions, which account for around 35,000 students within the FEDE network, played a pivotal role in these collaborative efforts, reflecting their increasing involvement in international educational frameworks.

Furthermore, the assembly included the presentation of FEDE's 2026 Human Rights Award, aimed at encouraging student engagement with universal values inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This ceremony, held in the presence of the Council of Europe representative in Morocco, highlighted the institutional significance of the award, which was granted to 40 students from 10 institutions across five countries, including notable contributions from Moroccan students based in Marrakech and Meknès.

Founded in 1963, FEDE is an international non-governmental organization that federates over 560 institutions across 44 countries, holding recognized status with several prestigious international bodies, including the Council of Europe and UNESCO. Through its expansive network and comprehensive programs, FEDE offers more than 170 European diplomas across various fields, focusing on practical skills and enhancing employability while fostering international cooperation and pedagogical innovation.
