Fes Court Takes Action Against Elected Official
The Court of First Instance in Fes has made a significant ruling, ordering the seizure of assets belonging to "S.K.", a former vice president of the Saiss district. This decision comes as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds.
On Wednesday, the court ruled that the confiscated movable assets would be transferred to the state, alongside the freezing of bank accounts for the public treasury. Additionally, the court found “S.K.” guilty of the charges against her, issuing a suspended prison sentence of two years along with a fine of 50,000 dirhams, which includes legal costs.
This ruling follows a previous verdict from the Criminal Chamber of the Appeals Court in Fes, which acquitted the official of charges related to the misappropriation of public funds and bribery. That verdict was subsequently upheld by the Appeals Chamber, highlighting the complexities surrounding this case.
These legal actions underscore the court's commitment to addressing corruption and safeguarding public funds, particularly in local governance. The seizure of assets serves as a crucial step in holding elected officials accountable for their financial dealings and reinforcing the integrity of public office.
