Fes Court Ruling on Fraudulent Invoice Case
The judicial body in the criminal court of the first instance in Fes has concluded the trial of those involved in a case concerning forged invoices and phantom companies. The court issued sentences ranging from several months of imprisonment to acquittals for a number of defendants, following sessions that uncovered complex details and rejected procedural defenses put forth by the defense.
In the public prosecution, Abdelilah Baaziz, a prominent leader in the National Rally of Independents party and president of the Taza regional council, was sentenced to six months in prison along with a monetary fine of 1,000 dirhams. His brother, Rashid Baaziz, received a sentence of three months in prison and a similar fine. Other defendants were also sentenced to prison terms ranging from one to six months.
In a significant turn of events, the court exonerated Baaziz's third brother and five other defendants from the charges leveled against them. Regarding financial penalties and confiscations, the court ruled to return the bail amounts deposited in the treasury to the acquitted defendants while settling the financial costs owed by the convicted individuals according to the imposed fines.
Additionally, the court ordered the destruction of all seized forged invoices and mandated the return of other personal belongings and documents related to the implicated companies, as well as marginal amounts to their respective owners according to legal procedures in place.
