Fes Court Sentences Two Bank Employees to Ten Years in Prison for Embezzlement

Severe Sentencing for Bank Fraud in Fes

In a significant ruling made on March 17, 2026, the Fes Court of Appeals sentenced two female bank employees to a combined total of ten years in prison for their involvement in embezzling funds from both the bank and its clients. The court, which specializes in financial crime cases, found the defendants guilty of serious financial misconduct, leading to a substantial loss for the banking institution.

The first defendant was sentenced to five years of imprisonment alongside a hefty fine of 80,000 dirhams. The court also mandated her to repay the bank a total of 1,100,528.00 dirhams, as well as an additional compensation of 110,000 dirhams for the damages caused. Notably, the court canceled an arrest warrant previously issued by the investigating judge against her.

In the civil case, the court accepted the claims filed against her, thereby obligating her to compensate the bank’s chairman for the financial loss incurred. The second employee received the same five-year prison sentence, but with a larger fine of 100,000 dirhams. The court also required her to repay 1,346,804.43 dirhams to the bank, in addition to a compensation fee of 130,000 dirhams.

The charges against the first employee included embezzlement of public funds and document forgery, amounting to over 110 million centimes. Meanwhile, the second employee faced multiple charges, including bank document forgery and fraudulent access to the bank’s automated data processing system, with her embezzlement totaling over 134 million centimes. This ruling highlights the judiciary's commitment to tackling financial crimes and restoring integrity within banking institutions.
