Fes Festival of World Sacred Music Celebrates Craftsmanship in Its 29th Edition

Fes Festival Launches 29th Edition with a Tribute to Traditional Artisans

The 29th edition of the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music is set to commence on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the iconic Bab Makina venue. This year’s opening performance, titled **"The Emergence of Spirit from Matter – From Heaven to Earth,"** promises to be a remarkable artistic, poetic, and choreographic tribute that honors the creative touch of artisans while celebrating their pivotal role in the preservation of human heritage.

This inaugural show aligns with the festival's theme, **"Fes and the Masters, Guardians of Craft and Heritage,"** spotlighting the symbolic and human value of traditional crafts. It aims to evoke the profound connection between humanity and the fundamental elements of the universe through an artistic journey that ascends from the heavens to the earth, exploring the paths of creativity embodied in various ancient professions and crafts.

Attendees can expect a unique visual and musical experience that draws inspiration from traditional workshops, where elements such as water, air, earth, and fire are transformed into timeless artistic creations. Utilizing tools of traditional artisans—like kilns, bellows, chisels, and potter's wheels—the performance narrates humanity's story with materials and their transformations through time.

The show also celebrates the creative hands of master craftsmen, including tanners, dyers, weavers, cobblers, tile makers, carpenters, and metalworkers, who have preserved inherited professional traditions and contributed to safeguarding the cultural and civilizational memory of their communities. Furthermore, it highlights significant historical milestones in the journey of human crafts, ranging from the discovery of silk in ancient China to the artistry of Moroccan zellige and historical mosaics.

In a symbolic scene, the Bab Makina space will transform into an open cosmic workshop celebrating blacksmiths from Morocco to various corners of the world, embodying the values of communication and meeting among cultures and peoples.

This 29th edition will feature artists and creatives from Morocco and several Asian and European countries, including India, China, Central Asian nations, the Balkans, and Cambodia, in a collective celebration of Fes's cultural heritage and the shared human values that unite diverse cultures.

The opening night marks the beginning of four days filled with artistic performances and cultural encounters hosted in some of the most historic venues in Fes. More than 160 artists, masters, and craftsmen from around the globe will participate in a rich and multifaceted program.

Through this festival, the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music continues to cement its international status as a platform for dialogue among cultures and a champion of heritage preservation.
