Fes Court Reduces Sentences for Kidnapping Convicts
The Court of Appeal in Fes has recently reviewed the sentences of two men involved in a high-profile kidnapping case that shocked the national public. The individuals, known by their nicknames "Faisal" (the one referred to as "Born of Copper") and his accomplice "Amin," were found guilty of kidnapping and demanding ransom, along with other violent offenses.
According to sources, the court upheld the initial decision regarding Faisal but decided to reduce Amin's sentence from ten years to just one year in prison along with a fine of 1,000 dirhams, following a re-evaluation of the charges against him. The court also imposed a six-year prison sentence on Faisal, holding both defendants jointly responsible for court costs.
After the verdict was announced, the presiding judge informed the defendants that they had ten days to appeal the decision in accordance with Article 457 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Faisal was charged with various offenses including kidnapping for ransom, violence, and the unauthorized recording and distribution of a video that portrayed the victim in a compromising situation.
It is noteworthy that Faisal was captured by members of the Anti-Gang Unit in Fes, following precise information provided by the Regional Directorate for National Territorial Surveillance (DST). He had previously appeared in a viral video threatening a victim with a weapon while holding him hostage.
Upon his apprehension in Ain Taoujdat, it was discovered that Faisal was wanted on a national level for multiple offenses, including assault and theft, with a total of ten cases filed against him. In his confession, he admitted to having a personal vendetta against the victim, who he claimed had reported him to the police.
The kidnapper devised a detailed plan to lure the victim to his rented room under the pretense of retrieving a piece of clothing. He then demanded a ransom of 1,500 dirhams from the victim's family, threatening them with dire consequences if they failed to comply. Eventually, the family gathered 1,400 dirhams, allowing for the victim's release.
Additionally, sources revealed that another accomplice, known as "Baya," remains at large, while investigations continue in the local neighborhoods. The crackdown on this case also led to the arrest of other individuals involved in various criminal activities, including drug-related offenses.
