Fes-Meknes Region Approves Major Development Projects Worth Over 600 Million Dirhams

Significant Investments in Sports and Infrastructure

The Fes-Meknes Regional Council has recently approved nine partnership agreements aimed at executing developmental projects during an extraordinary session held in Fes. The most prominent among these is the construction of a large stadium in the city of Meknes, with a total budget approaching 600 million dirhams. This ambitious project is a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, which will contribute 150 million dirhams, and the Fes-Meknes region itself, contributing 100 million dirhams.

Other contributors include the Meknes Prefectural Council, which will provide 10 million dirhams, the Meknes municipality with 30 million dirhams, and the Al-Machour municipality with 10 million dirhams. Notably, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation will play a significant role, contributing 300 million dirhams to the project. The agreement outlines the contributions of the involved parties to ensure the successful realization of the stadium, along with general management and operational conditions.

During an interview with the Moroccan News Agency, the President of the Fes-Meknes Regional Council, Abdel Wahid Al-Ansari, emphasized that this sports facility will add notable value to the region, particularly as Morocco prepares to host the 2030 World Cup. He highlighted that the Fes-Meknes region is set to receive several participating teams, positioning this project as a new lever that complements various developmental initiatives currently underway in the area.

Comprehensive Development Initiatives

In addition to the stadium project, the council also approved a partnership agreement to enhance the Construction and Public Works Training Institute in Fes, revising a previous agreement from July 2025 to assign the role of project owner to the Ministry of Equipment and Water instead of the National Federation of Construction and Public Works. The total cost for this initiative is estimated at 14 million dirhams, with the council contributing 9.8 million dirhams and the Ministry providing 4.2 million dirhams.

Furthermore, the council members agreed on a project to construct a road leading to the Ras El Ma logistics area in the Moulay Yacoub region, aimed at improving accessibility and the flow of traffic in this economic zone. The total cost for this project amounts to 30 million dirhams, with the region contributing approximately 25 million dirhams, while the Ain Chkaf municipality, acting as the project owner, will contribute 5 million dirhams.

To enhance rural infrastructure, the council approved a specific agreement for the development and maintenance of roads in the Taounate region, under the regional development program, with a total budget nearing 20 million dirhams. Additionally, a supplementary agreement was approved for acquiring transportation means and logistical equipment for the Royal Gendarmerie in the Fes-Meknes region, which will also include the establishment of a new gendarmerie barracks in Ifrane, with a total investment of 20 million dirhams.

Moreover, a new prison facility is set to be constructed in the Sefrou region, with a capacity of 1,000 beds, amounting to 120 million dirhams. The regional council will contribute 30 million dirhams, while the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration will provide 60 million dirhams, with the remaining partners sharing the last 30 million dirhams.

In an environmental context, the council approved a special agreement to strengthen the air quality monitoring network in the Fes-Meknes region, with a financial allocation of 8 million dirhams. This initiative aims to enhance the number of air quality measurement stations from nine to fifteen by 2030, completing the national air quality monitoring program from 2020 to 2030.

Additionally, a project was approved to enhance and expand the artisanal industry zone in Benjil, which includes the creation of access roads, with a total financial outlay of approximately 58 million dirhams, of which the region will contribute 38 million dirhams along with the State Secretary for Artisanal Industry.

In the health sector, the council allocated financial resources to support and improve healthcare services in hospitals across various regions, aiming to enhance health offerings and bring medical services closer to the citizens while improving the quality of healthcare to better meet the population's needs. The President of the Fes-Meknes Regional Council reiterated that this extraordinary session was marked by the approval of rich and structural projects that will significantly improve the living conditions of citizens and enhance the region's attractiveness and competitiveness in economic, tourism, and social domains, aligning with the ongoing developmental dynamic across various provinces and prefectures within the region.
