New Initiatives for Economic and Social Development

On October 5, 2026, during its regular session held in the morning, the Fes-Meknes Regional Council approved a series of new agreements and projects aimed at various sectors, including industry, traditional crafts, infrastructure, sports, water management, and flood protection. This initiative aligns with the ongoing implementation of numerous economic and social projects across the region's provinces. The session was attended by the Wali of Fes-Meknes, Khalid Ait Taleb, who participated in the discussion of these significant developments.

Among the key approvals was an amendment to the decree concerning the establishment of the "Fes Industrial Development Company," alongside a project for its bylaws and a capital contribution. This company will be responsible for the planning, management, and marketing of industrial zones within the region. Its mission encompasses the Ain Beida industrial zone in Fes, Ain Chkak in the province of Sefrou, and the Wislane area in Meknes, as well as six new industrial zones previously approved by the council during the July 2025 session. This strategic move aims to streamline the management of these zones and support the growth of industrial activities in the region.

Support for Traditional Crafts and Infrastructure Projects

In the realm of traditional crafts, the council approved a specific agreement for the establishment and equipping of the second phase of the traditional crafts complex in Sefrou, with a contribution from the region amounting to 6 million dirhams, out of a total budget of 14.4 million dirhams, which includes participation from the regional authority, the Sefrou provincial authority, the Sefrou municipality, and the Al Omrane company. Furthermore, the council endorsed a partnership agreement to create a hub for traditional craft activities benefiting small and medium enterprises in the Taza province, with a total cost of 20 million dirhams funded entirely by the region, as part of the program contract between the state and the region for the period 2020-2022.

In terms of infrastructure and natural disaster risk management, the council ratified a partnership agreement aimed at protecting the city of Taza from floods and mitigating their impacts on residents, property, and infrastructure. This project has a total cost of 50 million dirhams, with the region contributing 10 million dirhams alongside the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the Taza municipality, and the Sebou Water Basin Agency. Additionally, an amendment to the agreement for constructing the conference palace in Fes was approved, which is part of the program contract between the state and the region for the period 2020-2022, with the construction progressing to 95% completion.

In the sports sector, the council agreed to a partnership with the Fes Sports Association Football Club to support sports excellence and encourage achievements in regional sports at the national level, allocating 10 million dirhams in financial support to the club.

The approvals also extended to several projects related to essential services in local communities, including an allocation of 400,000 dirhams to the Imouzzer Kander municipality in the Sefrou province for the purchase of an ambulance and 900,000 dirhams for providing drinking water to the Ait Wad El Fall area in the Ait Sebaa Jorf municipality. Moreover, the council earmarked 100,000 dirhams to support a water connection project for the residents of Ain Marsa in Adghagh, part of the Tizkit municipality in the Ifran province, within the framework of projects aimed at improving access to basic services, supporting local infrastructure, and reducing regional disparities across different areas of the region.
