Fes-Meknes Regional Investment Center Unveils Ambitious Cable Car Project
The Fes-Meknes Regional Investment Center has recently announced the launch of an international call for expressions of interest regarding the construction and operation of a cable car project in the city of Fes. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the urban transportation system and boosting the region's tourism appeal. The project is part of a broader strategy to improve mobility options within the city, complementing existing urban transport plans, including the introduction of a high-service bus system known as "Busway".
As the first of its kind in Fes, the proposed cable car system is expected to not only serve as a means of transport but also to offer panoramic views of the historical cityscape, enriching the tourist experience. The project emphasizes the importance of integrating transportation solutions with the heritage and natural landscapes of Fes, ensuring that development aligns with the preservation of the city's ancient charm.
In addition to the cable car initiative, Fes is also progressing with the Busway project, which aims to establish a high-capacity bus service stretching approximately 25 kilometers. This route will connect key areas, including Ain Nqbi, Bab Al-Ftuh, and Fes-Saïss Airport, addressing issues such as congestion and inadequate connections to peripheral regions. The Busway is designed as part of a comprehensive transportation plan set to evolve over the next two decades, with an aim for implementation by 2040.
The call for expressions of interest will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will involve a preliminary selection of candidates based on their experience and references, along with a preliminary technical feasibility study and a brief financial overview. The second phase will finalize the selection process for the candidates chosen in the first round.
This initiative reflects a significant shift towards modernizing Fes's transport infrastructure, combining both functional mobility and tourist engagement. By linking transport with scenic views, the cable car project is poised to contribute economically and socially to Fes, enhancing its status as a vibrant tourist destination.
