The case of former parliamentarian Rashid Faik has resurfaced prominently in Fes after the public prosecution office at the Court of Appeal decided to reinvestigate a complaint he previously lodged regarding allegations of extortion and threats during the legislative elections of 2021. This judicial decision follows the emergence of new evidence presented by Faik's defense team during a recent press conference, information that was not included in the original complaint. New Developments and Allegations
According to an official statement from the Attorney General, the original complaint dates back to June 23, 2025, when Faik was incarcerated at the local prison of 'Ras Al-Ma'. In this complaint, he accused several individuals of extortion and threats. However, the case has seen unexpected developments, as the deputy attorney general visited the prison three times to hear from the complainant, who failed to provide any testimony during these visits. Following the lack of a statement and insufficient material evidence accompanying the complaint, the case was temporarily shelved on August 29, 2025. In July 2026, Faik's defense sought to reopen the case, but the situation remained unchanged due to a lack of new evidence.
The recent press conference, however, has shifted the course of the matter once again. Faik's defense presented heavy allegations involving substantial sums of money and extortion incidents linked to previous elections. They claimed that billions of dirhams were involved, including an incident where a Volvo vehicle allegedly contained nearly seven billion dirhams in cash in its trunk, alongside other amounts. The defense also mentioned meetings that Faik purportedly had with various officials and political leaders, citing alleged pressures related to his position within the Fes-Meknes regional council.
According to the defense, Faik possesses photos and audio recordings that they believe support their claims. These materials have been submitted to the judiciary for technical examination to verify their content and legal validity. Consequently, the case has moved from the realm of press conferences and statements back into the judicial investigative arena, where the inquiry will first ascertain the accuracy of the new information, the nature of the recordings and photos, and the veracity of the events described by the defense before determining any legal responsibility.
