Fes Stadium's Transformation in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup
The residents of Fes, known as the scientific capital of Morocco, are eagerly anticipating a significant upgrade to their sports infrastructure with the renovation of the Fes Sports Complex. This initiative comes as the National Agency for Public Equipment has launched two international tenders valued at a total of 1.52 billion dirhams. These tenders focus on essential equipment related to the modernization and rehabilitation of the facility, a project expected to enhance the stadium's readiness to host major sports events in accordance with international standards.
This renovation project is directly linked to the preparations for the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco is co-hosting with Spain and Portugal. However, the renovation process extends beyond merely preparing the stadium for the competition; it encompasses the installation of various systems related to operation, safety, lighting, communication, air conditioning, and ventilation. These upgrades will ensure that the stadium meets modern technical requirements for large venues.
The two tenders will soon enter the implementation phase following the completion of the bidding process. The first tender, which pertains to electrical systems (both high and low voltage), has an estimated cost of around 1.29 billion dirhams. The second tender involves fluid equipment, with a budget exceeding 228 million dirhams, bringing the total investment for this stage of the renovation to approximately 1.52 billion dirhams. The anticipated works under the first tender include specialized lighting systems, fire detection and automatic extinguishing systems, information technology and communication networks, access points, electronic screens, audio systems, and television broadcasting capabilities. Additionally, surveillance cameras and centralized technical management systems will form an integral part of the facility's technological framework once it becomes operational.
The second tender, which addresses fluid equipment, includes sanitary plumbing, fire protection, and systems for air conditioning, ventilation, and smoke extraction. These components are crucial for ensuring the safety of users and the operational conditions of various facilities, especially during events that attract large crowds. The execution period for the first tender is set at 18 months, while the second tender will take 15 months, starting from the date of the notice to commence work. A warranty period of 24 months will be established following the provisional acceptance of the work, indicating that the upcoming phase will involve a complex technical project covering various systems essential for the facility before it becomes operational.
These tenders are part of a broader program aimed at rehabilitating the Fes Sports Complex, with a projected budget of approximately 2.79 billion dirhams for the year 2026. The National Agency for Public Equipment is responsible for overseeing the project, while the company Sonargis will manage the project, supported by architectural and engineering consulting firms dedicated to the initiative. Thus, the launch of these tenders represents only a new step in the ongoing rehabilitation of the complex, paving the way for an implementation phase that will significantly determine its technical readiness. The facility is now required not only to meet the conditions for hosting matches but also to provide integrated systems for safety, operation, broadcasting, and services, aligning with the demands of major sports events.
