Fes Set to Introduce a Scenic Cable Car to Boost Tourism

The city of Fes is gearing up for an exciting new venture that aims to enhance its tourist appeal through the introduction of a cable car system. The regional investment center of Fes-Meknes has recently announced the opening of a call for expressions of interest, inviting national and international companies and economic groups to design, implement, and manage this innovative project.

This ambitious initiative seeks to establish an aerial transport system that complements the existing transportation network, providing visitors with unique perspectives of the city’s ancient landmarks from elevated viewpoints. It is essential that the proposed structures harmonize with the historical and cultural heritage, as well as the architectural landscape of Fes, ensuring that the project respects the city's rich legacy.

The selection process for potential investors will take place in two phases. The first phase will involve evaluating candidates based on their previous experience, preliminary technical feasibility studies, and financial proposals for the project. The final phase will involve a detailed comparison of the submissions that have progressed past the initial selection, focusing on comprehensive and inclusive proposals.

The regional investment center has set a deadline of January 1, 2027, for the submission of applications for the first phase. Should this project come to fruition, Fes will join Agadir, which currently hosts Morocco's only operational cable car, developed by the Swiss-Austrian company Garaventa Doppelmayr, a leader in cable transport systems.
