Festival Timitar 2026: A Celebration of Cultures Through Music

Timitar Festival: A Melodic Journey Through Cultures

The 21st edition of the Timitar Festival, known as Timitar-Signes et Cultures, is set to take place in Agadir from July 23 to July 25, 2026. This annual event promises three exhilarating days filled with music, cultural exchanges, and emotional experiences. As a hallmark event in the region, the festival is organized under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and aims to unite prominent figures from the Amazigh, Moroccan, African, Arab, and international music scenes. Celebrating the dialogue between cultures, the transmission of heritage, and the vitality of contemporary creation, the festival invites attendees to embark on an artistic journey that intertwines past traditions with modern expressions. The organizers emphasize that the festival is more than a series of concerts; it is a vibrant experience where cultures discover, respond to, and enrich one another.

Roots and Cultural Dialogue

The festival's opening night will delve into the roots that establish the identity of Timitar. The program will feature a rich tapestry of Amazigh traditions, Saharan sounds, Moroccan popular music, and contemporary urban expressions, all woven together in a dialogue that embodies the festival's spirit of sharing and creating connections between diverse musical universes. At Place Al Amal, the opening celebration will kick off with the female Ahwach group Tiferkhin, followed by performances from Lartiste & Benny Adam, alongside their guests Sofia Marikh, Maestro, DJ Key, and Najat Atabou, who will seamlessly blend modernity with popular memory. Meanwhile, at the Théâtre de Verdure, Malouma and Fatima Tihihite will showcase the authentic interplay between Mauritanian and Amazigh heritages.

The following day, the festival will naturally broaden its horizons to embrace the African continent, remaining true to its DNA by presenting a dialogue between Moroccan and African scenes. This celebration of the diverse musical expressions and cultural ties that bind the continent will feature artists such as Larbi Imghrane, Zouhair Bahaoui, MR ID, Zina Daoudia, and the Ahwach of Kelaat Megouna, filling Place Al Amal with the vibrant rhythms of a pluralistic and contemporary Morocco. At the Théâtre de Verdure, Aïcha Koné, Makadem, and the Africa United collective, along with Foulane Bouhssine, will bring forth a creative, open, and dynamic Africa where traditions converse with modern aesthetics.

In its final gathering, Timitar will showcase artists whose works embody the festival's mission to foster cultural dialogue while remaining deeply rooted in their origins. This closing night will celebrate music as a universal language, featuring the Ahwachs of the Grand South, Hamid El Kasri, DJ HBrown, Ragheb Alama, and Oudaden on the Place Al Amal stage. At the Théâtre de Verdure, Fatema Tachtoukt, Abeer Nehme, and Fatima Tabaamrant will create a poignant encounter that intertwines poetry, heritage, and emotion. The closing event will reflect the essence of Timitar: generous, open, and profoundly connected to its identity. As in previous years, the festival will take place in two iconic venues of the city: the open-air Place Al Amal, a popular stage for all, and the Théâtre de Verdure, a treasured space for the great voices and artistic encounters. For three days, these two venues will pulse with the heart of Agadir, providing festival-goers with a universally accessible musical experience.
