FIFA's Clarification on World Cup Final Venue Selection
In a recent statement, FIFA has officially addressed rumors regarding the selection of Casablanca as the host city for the final match of the 2030 World Cup. While the excitement surrounding the upcoming tournament, set to be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, grows, FIFA has made it clear that no final decision has yet been made regarding the venue. This clarification comes amidst claims from the president of Morocco’s soccer federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, who suggested that the city of Benslimane, which is close to Casablanca, had already secured the rights to host the prestigious event.
According to Lekjaa, the final will undeniably take place in Benslimane, sparking both enthusiasm and controversy among fans and officials alike. He stated, "The city of Benslimane will host the World Cup final. Hate it or love it, and if anyone wants to talk on top of that, let them talk." However, FIFA’s spokesperson countered these assertions by reiterating that a decision on the final venue will be made at an appropriate time, as previously communicated in early August 2026. The leading contenders for the final match currently include Madrid’s iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and a new stadium planned in Benslimane, which is anticipated to accommodate around 115,000 spectators.
