FIFA Refutes Allegations of Deal with Morocco
The International Federation of Association Football, commonly known as FIFA, has firmly denied reports suggesting that its president, Gianni Infantino, made any promises to Morocco concerning the hosting of the 2030 World Cup final. These allegations surfaced following an article published by The Times newspaper, which claimed that Infantino had offered Morocco the opportunity to host the prestigious event in exchange for political support in the upcoming FIFA presidential elections scheduled for March 2027.
In a statement to the Spanish news agency EFE, FIFA labeled these claims as "false and misleading." The organization emphasized that Infantino had not made any commitments regarding which nation would host the final match of the World Cup in 2030. Furthermore, FIFA clarified that no decisions have been made regarding the stadium or country that will host the final, asserting that such choices will be made "in due course" following the appropriate procedures established within FIFA.
This denial comes at a time when discussions about the preparations for the 2030 World Cup are intensifying. The tournament is set to be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, with the opening matches taking place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, commemorating the centennial anniversary of the inaugural World Cup.
