Strategic Discussions at the FIM Board Meeting

The FIM Board of Directors gathered at The View Hotel in Agadir, Morocco, on September 26 and 27, for their third meeting of the year 2026. This meeting was strategically timed ahead of the FIM World Rally-Raid Championship event set to take place south of Agadir from September 28 to October 3, 2026. A diverse array of topics was discussed during the meeting, reflecting the board's commitment to the advancement of motorcycle sports across various disciplines.

In the realm of sports, each discipline was meticulously reviewed, with particular focus on promotional contracts for the FIM World Supercross Championship, the FIM World Rally-Raid Championship, the FIM Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, and the FIM E-Bike Enduro World Cup. The board also assessed the ongoing impacts of the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East on FIM Championship events, including MotoGP in Qatar and the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. An update was provided regarding the upcoming Intercontinental FIM Games, slated for Goiânia, Brazil, from December 11 to 13, 2026. Additionally, the board approved modifications to the classes and categories within the FIM World Championships and Prizes. The second phase of the helmet homologation standard (FRHPhe-02) has been successfully implemented across all FIM World Championships and Prizes since January 1, 2026. Furthermore, a roadmap for the initial phase of FIM airbag homologation (FRHPab-01) was presented, with recommendations for a functional and operational airbag system becoming highly encouraged in 2027 and mandatory by 2028 within the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP/MX2/women) and the FIM Motocross of Nations. An overview of noise reduction measures implemented in off-road and circuit racing disciplines was also shared.

Financial and Operational Developments

In terms of finances, the board approved the budget for 2027, which will be presented for approval at the General Assembly. A 5% increase in FIM motorcycle homologation fees effective from 2027 was also greenlit, along with updated forecasts for 2026. The board reiterated its compassion and solidarity with those affected by the fallout from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, reaffirming decisions made during an extraordinary meeting on March 5, 2022, which included the prohibition of participation by Russian and Belarusian riders, teams, and officials in FIM events until further notice. The FIM will continue to monitor the evolving situation with consideration for the unique aspects of motorcycle sports.

Regarding affiliations, the board decided to present the affiliations of East Timor (FMCTL), Lesotho (LORA), the Maldives (RAM), and Vietnam (VMF) for approval at the General Assembly. They approved the expansion of the FIM Event License to include national events open to foreign participation. The new FIM clothing line set to launch in 2027 was introduced, with Acerbis Italia S.p.A named as the official clothing supplier and 'FIM Global Partner'. Modifications to FIM Europe’s statutes were also approved, and the next meeting of the secretaries general of the FMNs and CONUs will be hosted by the Automobile and Touring Club of Egypt (ATCE) in Cairo on October 6 and 7, 2026.

Updates were provided regarding the FIM communication department's future structure, as well as marketing and digital strategies including developments on the FIM-moto.tv broadcasting platform and activities related to the FIM Awards. The Racing Motorcycle Museum (RMM) reported on its activities since its opening in mid-February 2026, including visitor statistics and promotional efforts. A temporary exhibition celebrating the 100th edition of the International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) has recently opened. The board also received updates regarding the International Foundation for Motorcycling (IFM), which confirmed that audited accounts and the 2025 management report had been approved. Additionally, the IFM encourages female participation in the 2026 ISDE and FIM Trial of Nations by providing financial support to FMNs registering female riders for these FIM events.

Lastly, the board approved amendments to the internal regulations, sporting code, and license and registration rights to be submitted for examination at the 2026 General Assembly, along with several changes to the disciplinary, medical, and ethical codes. The composition of the Trials Commission was modified with the addition of new expert Sara Trentini, while ratifying the withdrawal of Donna Fox from the commission. Distinctions and honorary memberships were awarded subject to General Assembly approval, and progress was reported on the General Assemblies and FIM Awards scheduled for December 4 and 5, 2026, in Málaga, Spain, and December 10 and 11, 2027, in Doha, Qatar. Information was also shared about the 2027 Commissions Conference, set for February 13 and 14, 2027, in Divonne-les-Bains, France, and Mies, Switzerland, with the next conference scheduled for February 5 and 6, 2028, in the same locations. The presidents of the CONUs, council committees, task forces, and administrative departments presented updates on their respective project advancements.
