Meknes is set to host the inaugural "Meknes Agricultural Business Day" on April 24, 2026, organized by the Fes-Meknes Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services in partnership with the Regional Economic Forum. This strategic discussion aims to delve into the future of the food industry sector and its developmental prospects, coinciding with the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM 2026).
This significant event occurs within the context of a rapidly evolving landscape at the SIAM, which serves as a continental platform attracting over 1,500 exhibitors and 70 foreign delegations, with expectations of surpassing 1.1 million visitors. This reflects Morocco's prominent position as a pivotal player in the agricultural domain and related industries.
The food industry has emerged as one of the key drivers of the national economy, particularly considering the profound transformations occurring in the realms of production and trade. In today's interconnected global economy, characterized by fierce competition and continuously shifting market dynamics, the need to enhance the competitiveness of this sector is more critical than ever. This can be achieved through three main strategies: improving the quality of offerings, diversifying domestic markets to boost national consumption, and strengthening integration into global value chains to elevate export levels and expand the reach of Moroccan products in international markets.
During this meeting, there will be a strong emphasis on the necessity of boosting exports by leveraging modern technology in production and marketing, as well as developing innovative support mechanisms for small and medium enterprises and cooperatives, which are essential pillars in the agricultural economic landscape.
Furthermore, discussions will include the potential establishment of a collective mechanism aimed at standardizing agricultural and industrial offerings by purchasing products from smaller enterprises while providing support in areas such as quality, marketing, and exporting to enhance their ability to access international markets, particularly in Africa.
Morocco possesses significant export potential estimated at around 120 billion dirhams; however, enhancing this performance is contingent upon strengthening the export insurance system, improving logistical frameworks, and adopting a regional approach to exporting, positioning regions like Fes-Meknes as active centers in export and distribution operations.
This initiative is aligned with strategic objectives designed to support productive economies, bolster food sovereignty, and increase the added value of local products, with a focus on integrating cooperative economics within production and marketing chains.
Through this initiative, the Fes-Meknes Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services aims to solidify Meknes's status as a regional and national hub for agricultural business by fostering extensive discussions among economic stakeholders, decision-makers, investors, and experts on challenges related to innovation, financing, marketing, and internationalization.
Ultimately, the "Meknes Agricultural Business Day" represents a new milestone in cementing the Fes-Meknes region's position as a promising economic hub in the food industries, while also reimagining the contours of a modern economic model.
