Former Progressive MP Faces Charges in Fes Criminal Court

Legal Proceedings Against a Former Politician

A former member of the Progressive and Socialist Party, who served as an MP for the province of Sefrou and led the commune of Imouzzer Kandar for several years, is currently under investigation by a judge in the first chamber of the Fes appellate court. The charges against him include "forgery in an official document, its use, and the embezzlement of public funds." These allegations come after detailed investigations were conducted with him, a contractor, and an employee from the urban planning department.

The case has now been referred to the primary criminal chamber for financial crimes, where the defendants are expected to stand trial soon under provisional release conditions, pending legal guarantees. The contractor, who resides in Belgium, faces charges of forgery related to an informal document and participating in the misappropriation of funds, while the urban planning employee is charged with forgery.

The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by the Ministry of Interior through the governor of Sefrou, which called for an inquiry into irregularities and violations that occurred in the commune of Imouzzer Kandar during the former president's tenure. The complaint was fueled by the findings of an inspection authorized by the General Inspectorate of Territorial Administration within the Ministry of Interior, which identified numerous discrepancies, particularly in the urban planning sector of the commune.

Among the issues highlighted were failures to adhere to existing legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as the unauthorized issuance of individual building permits without proper review by a regional urban planning committee or consultation with the urban agency. The developments surrounding this case raise concerns about governance and accountability in local administration.
