Fourth Edition of the African Book Festival Kicks Off in Marrakech

The fourth edition of the African Book Festival officially commenced today, Thursday, in Marrakech, featuring a distinguished lineup of writers, thinkers, and philosophers. This festival, held under the theme "Imagining Other Possibilities," spans three days and brings together prominent literary voices from the African continent and its diasporas. The primary aim is to utilize literature as a platform for hope, resilience, and imagination.

The African Book Festival in Marrakech serves as a vibrant space for the exchange of ideas and dialogues across generations, languages, geographical areas, and disciplines. This diversity is reflected in the festival's extensive program, which includes meetings, discussions, readings, and workshops, alongside enhanced programming tailored for the youth. Among the notable guests this year are Yannick Lahens from Haiti, who won the Grand Prize of the French Academy in 2025, and Patrick Chamoiseau from Martinique, a recipient of the prestigious "Goncourt" Prize in 1992.

This edition is characterized by the presence of prominent literary figures and emerging talents, providing a platform for the next generation of promising writers. The festival, founded by writer and visual artist Mahi Binebine, extends its reach to other leading academic and cultural spaces, particularly the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Ben Guerir, Cadi Ayyad University, the House of Shelter and Education for Rural Girls, the Mother and Child Hospital (University Hospital Center of Marrakech), the interactive cultural center "Midan," as well as several high schools and higher education institutions.

It is important to note that comments must not be defamatory or offensive toward writers, individuals, sacred symbols, religions, or God. Additionally, remarks should not include insults or incitements to hatred and discrimination.
