France-Morocco: Paris Police Take Security Measures Ahead of Quarter-Final Match

Security Measures Implemented in Paris for France vs Morocco Match

As the excitement builds for the quarter-final match of the World Cup between France and Morocco, scheduled for Thursday night, the Paris police have announced significant security measures, including the closure of several metro stations. This decision, which affects key areas in Paris, aims to ensure public safety during the highly anticipated event.

Beginning at 9 PM, several metro stations—including Argentine, George-V, Madeleine, Miromesnil, Ternes, and Tuileries—will be closed, with no train services stopping at these locations. The Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile station will also be included in this shutdown, and line 6 will be interrupted between Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile and Trocadéro. These preventive actions are part of a broader strategy by the police to manage potential crowd surges and enhance safety in the vicinity of the match, which kicks off at 10 PM.

Additional Restrictions for Public Safety

In addition to the metro station closures, the Paris prefecture has imposed restrictions on the transport and use of fireworks and flammable materials. Specifically, from July 13 to 15, the holding and use of pyrotechnics will be prohibited, as will the transportation of fuel in jerrycans from July 9 to 10 in Paris and its surrounding suburbs. These measures are justified by the authorities due to a heightened risk of serious disturbances to public order, stemming from past incidents during significant football events. The police have deemed these restrictions as "adapted, necessary, and proportionate" to safeguard individuals and property during the match.
