Nabila Mounib Selected as PSU's Candidate for Casablanca Anfa Legislative Elections

In a significant political move, the Unified Socialist Party (PSU) has officially appointed Nabila Mounib as its lead candidate for the upcoming legislative elections in the Anfa constituency of Casablanca. This decision was made by the party's political bureau, which holds the ultimate authority regarding candidate nominations in accordance with the party's bylaws. Despite the local PSU branch in Anfa initially nominating Abdullah Abaakil to head the party's list, Mounib's candidacy had been anticipated by many observers, especially following a recent agreement between the PSU and the Federation of the Democratic Left (FGD).

This strategic alliance effectively eliminated the possibility of competition from Fatima Tamni, an FGD lawmaker who had previously indicated her intention to contest in Anfa. Mounib's path is now clear as she prepares to seek a direct mandate from the electorate. It is noteworthy that Mounib faced a significant setback in the 2015 municipal elections in Casablanca, where she experienced a heavy defeat.

In the legislative elections held on September 8, 2021, Mounib did not contest a constituency seat; instead, she secured a parliamentary mandate through the national women's list, which was based on the votes garnered by PSU candidates across the nation. At that time, she stood as the sole representative of her party in the House of Representatives. Mounib's upcoming campaign in Anfa will undoubtedly be a pivotal moment in her political career as she aims to strengthen her position within the Moroccan political landscape.
