France Takes Center Stage at the 2026 Rabat International Book and Publishing Fair
In an exciting cultural exchange, France has been designated as the guest of honour for Morocco's 2026 International Book and Publishing Fair, set to take place in Rabat. This prestigious event is marked by the participation of Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux, alongside a dynamic lineup of over 120 events that promise to engage and inspire attendees. This invitation serves as a reciprocal gesture following Morocco's celebrated presence at the Paris Book Festival in 2025, strengthening the literary ties between the two nations.
The French pavilion, expertly coordinated by the Institut Français du Maroc, is designed to be an inclusive space that fosters interaction between authors, publishers, and the reading public. The program is rich with activities including book signings, author discussions, thought-provoking debates, and engaging workshops. Additionally, professional meetings will enable collaboration among writers, translators, and publishers from both Morocco and France, facilitating a vibrant exchange of ideas and cultural perspectives.
In addition to Ernaux, the French delegation will feature renowned authors such as Morgan Moncomble and Timothée de Fombelle, along with approximately 15 other distinguished writers. Their participation extends beyond the confines of Rabat, as events will be held throughout Morocco via the French cultural network, further amplifying the impact of the fair.
This year's fair also coincides with Rabat's designation as UNESCO's World Book Capital, which reinforces the city's ambition to become a leading hub for publishing and literary culture in the region. The organizers have highlighted the inclusion of prestigious literary awards such as the Goncourt Choice of Morocco and the First Novel Festival of Chambéry, as well as a comics competition that aims to deepen the connections between the two literary ecosystems.
Moreover, an “off-site” program will enhance the fair's reach by extending activities into public spaces across Rabat. This initiative will include film screenings, musical performances, and contemporary art exhibitions, designed to attract a broader audience and democratize access to literary culture.
