French-Algerian Woman Arrested in Marrakech for Defamation and Insulting Officials

Arrest of a French-Algerian National in Marrakech

On June 13, the police at Marrakech Menara Airport arrested a 30-year-old French national of Algerian descent. The suspect is believed to have disseminated defamatory and insulting digital content targeting Moroccan citizens, along with remarks deemed insulting towards a public institution governed by law.

According to authorities, the individual allegedly posted on her social media accounts content that harmed Moroccan citizens, including explicit accusations against public officials concerning corruption and preferential treatment while performing their duties, particularly regarding the enforcement of traffic regulations.

These allegations have been classified as criminal by officials, prompting a judicial investigation supervised by the relevant prosecutor's office. This investigation led to a national search notice for the suspect, who was apprehended as she was preparing to board a flight to France.

The suspect is currently in police custody as the investigation conducted by the Marrakech judicial police continues, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor, to ascertain the true motivations behind these actions.
