French National Arrested in Marrakech for Using Counterfeit Money

Counterfeit Currency Incident in Marrakech

A French national of Moroccan descent was apprehended in the Marrakech region after attempting to pay for a meal using a counterfeit Euro bill. This incident unfolded at a restaurant located in the tourist area of Ourika, where the establishment's owner reported the suspicious transaction to the local authorities. The individual, dining with a companion of French nationality, used the counterfeit bill during lunch, prompting the restaurant owner to alert the police. In response, the Royal Gendarmerie initiated an investigation to determine the possession and circulation of counterfeit currency.

Through collaborative efforts with the national security services in Marrakech, law enforcement was able to track down the suspect at a hotel within the city. A thorough search of his hotel room yielded approximately 70 counterfeit €20 notes. Subsequently, the suspect was taken into custody as part of the ongoing judicial inquiry overseen by the relevant public prosecutor's office. This investigation aims to clarify the specifics of the incident and to identify any potential accomplices or broader networks involved in the distribution of counterfeit currency.
