Rabat – Algerian goalkeeper Gaya Merbah has officially signed with Hassania Agadir, a club competing in the Botola Pro league. This transfer, completed as a free agent, marks Merbah's third professional engagement within the Moroccan domestic league, highlighting his growing influence in the region.
The agreement between Merbah and Hassania Agadir was finalized on August 26, following the mutual termination of his previous contract. This strategic acquisition is part of Hassania Agadir's broader efforts to bolster its squad with experienced players, aiming to enhance competitiveness in the upcoming season. The club's management has pinpointed the seasoned goalkeeper as a key figure to fortify their defensive lineup.
Merbah brings a wealth of experience from his time in top-flight football in both Morocco and Algeria. He has previously donned the jerseys of several prominent Algerian clubs, including NA Hussein Dey, CR Belouizdad, and JS Kabylie. His journey in Moroccan football began in 2021 when he joined Raja Club Athletic, later moving to Ittihad of Tanger, where he further established his professional reputation.
In the recently concluded 2023/2024 Botola Pro season, Merbah participated in 24 league matches for Ittihad of Tanger, showcasing his skills and resilience in goal. His consistent performances drew the attention of multiple regional scouts, underscoring his value in the competitive landscape of football.
Last season, Gaya Merbah had an impressive run with JS Kabylie, participating in 22 matches across various competitions. This included 19 appearances in the Algerian domestic league and three matches in the prestigious Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, amassing a total of 1,980 minutes on the pitch. His efforts were rewarded with five clean sheets, three of which came in the league, while the remaining two were in continental play.
Currently, the football valuation platform Transfermarkt estimates Merbah's market value at €250,000 (approximately MAD 2.7 million). This competitive valuation rendered him an appealing choice for Hassania Agadir during the transfer window, as they seek to revamp their squad.
As Gaya Merbah prepares to join his new teammates for training ahead of the Botola Pro season, there are high hopes that his vast experience will provide the stability needed in defense. Fans of Hassania Agadir are keenly anticipating his on-field performances as the league kicks off, eager to witness how his skills will contribute to the team's aspirations this season.
