Gentex to Establish New Manufacturing Plant in Morocco
Gentex, a prominent Tier-1 automotive supplier, has announced its intention to construct a new manufacturing facility in Morocco, a strategic move designed to bolster its supply chain relationships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) operating in North Africa. The company has secured backing from the Moroccan government to support this endeavor, which focuses on the production of automotive mirrors, a key component in vehicle safety and functionality.
Morocco has increasingly positioned itself as a pivotal hub for low-cost automotive manufacturing. Major automotive players such as Renault and Stellantis have already commenced expansion plans in the country, taking advantage of its advantageous trade agreements, particularly a free trade agreement with the European Union. This agreement facilitates the import and export of automotive parts and vehicles, enhancing Morocco’s attractiveness as a manufacturing base.
Currently, Renault is producing the Dacia Sandero in Morocco, while Stellantis manufactures the Peugeot 208 at its local facilities. As reported by GlobalData, the total vehicle production in Morocco reached an impressive 450,000 units in 2025, with projections indicating that this number could rise to nearly 700,000 units annually by the end of the decade. This growth trajectory reflects Morocco's emerging status as a robust player in the global automotive market, driven by its increasing capabilities in manufacturing and assembly.
