Germany Grants Military Equipment Export Licenses to Morocco

In a significant development for defense collaboration, the German government has authorized the export of military equipment to Morocco, amounting to a total value of €19.27 million in 2025. This approval includes a series of 26 individual licenses granted to various German defense companies, as detailed in an official report submitted to the German Parliament regarding arms exports.

The licenses encompass various military-related equipment, such as systems for tracking, communications, and military positioning, along with spare parts for surveillance and target tracking systems, and equipment related to armored vehicles. The German government emphasizes that each application for military export is assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account political, security, and foreign policy considerations, in accordance with the War Weapons Control Act and the Foreign Trade Act, as well as European regulations governing the export of military technology and equipment.

On a broader scale, Germany has issued approximately 140 collective export licenses during the same period, with a total value reaching €5.36 billion. The majority of these licenses are linked to European defense cooperation projects and joint production programs among European Union and NATO member states. Additionally, the licenses associated with small arms and their spare parts amounted to roughly €94.7 million, while exports of light weapons exceeded €130 million, with about 99 percent directed towards NATO and EU countries.

Germany’s defense industry is keen on increasing its presence in the Moroccan market, with indications of Berlin's interest in competing for an upcoming contract for Morocco's acquisition of two military submarines. In recent years, Morocco has been diversifying its defense suppliers as part of its strategy to modernize its military capabilities and strengthen partnerships with various European and international defense industries.
