Germany's U17 Women to Face Tough Competition in World Cup
In an exciting announcement, the German U17 women's football team will participate in the 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Morocco. The team has been drawn into Group A, where they will compete against the host nation Morocco, New Zealand, and Argentina. This draw was conducted on Thursday at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich, with former national player Babett Peter acting as the draw assistant.
The tournament will be held in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, from October 17 to November 7, 2026. This will be the second World Cup featuring 24 teams, a format introduced after the previous tournament in 2025. The complete match schedule and venues will be announced by FIFA at a later date, while the African representatives were drawn as placeholders and will be determined in July.
As the defending champions, North Korea, boasting four titles, will enter the tournament with a strong reputation. For Germany, this marks their eighth appearance in the U17 Women’s World Cup, having previously achieved their best result by securing third place during the inaugural tournament in 2008, held in New Zealand. After missing out on two consecutive tournaments, head coach Sabine Loderer's team earned their World Cup qualification by reaching the semifinals at the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship in Northern Ireland, where they ultimately clinched the European title.
The groups for the tournament are as follows: Group A includes Morocco, New Zealand, Germany, and Argentina; Group B features North Korea, Puerto Rico, Poland, and Africa 1; Group C consists of Canada, Brazil, Norway, and Africa 2; Group D has Japan, Africa 3, France, and Venezuela; while Group F includes Spain, Mexico, Australia, and Chile.
