Gibraltarian Educator Participates in National Forum for Teachers in Morocco

Promoting Educational Collaboration Between Gibraltar and Morocco

A dedicated teacher from Gibraltar recently represented the region at the National Forum for Teachers held in Morocco, an insightful two-day event orchestrated by the Moroccan Ministry for Education in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Foundation. This significant gathering attracted a diverse assembly of educators, school leaders, and specialists from various backgrounds across Morocco, Europe, and the United States, all united by a common goal: to enhance teaching methodologies through innovative research.

The forum delved into a multitude of topics, prominently featuring research in neuroscience, psychology, and educational practices. Participants engaged in discussions on how these fields can be effectively integrated into classroom settings, while also addressing ongoing educational reforms within Morocco. Among the attendees was Mark Montovio, who serves as the Project Co-ordinator for the Minister for Developing Relations with Morocco, John Cortes. Mr. Montovio, who also leads counselling courses at Gibraltar College, shared valuable insights through his presentation focused on understanding the adolescent brain. He explored how neurological development during adolescence plays a crucial role in shaping behavior, decision-making processes, and emotional reactions.

In his address, Montovio emphasized the necessity of fostering supportive learning environments that not only promote emotional safety but also encourage meaningful connections between educators and students. His contributions reflect a commitment to improving educational outcomes and nurturing the holistic development of young learners.

John Cortes, the Minister for Developing Relations with Morocco, expressed enthusiasm about the growing collaboration between Gibraltar and Morocco in the educational sector. He stated, "This is one of the fruits of our continuing work in developing links with Morocco. Next year we intend to have expanded representation at this important educational event, allowing us to further share our experiences in Education with colleagues across the Strait.” This sentiment underscores the importance of international partnerships in expanding educational horizons and enhancing teaching practices.
