GNV Expands Fleet with New Vessels to Enhance Mediterranean Services

GNV PHOENIX Joins the Fleet

In a significant expansion of its maritime operations, FerryGNV has added the GNV PHOENIX to its growing fleet. This 214-meter RoPax ferry, previously known as ATHARA in the Moby Lines fleet and built in 2003, marks a pivotal moment for GNV as it increases its total number of vessels to 29. With a gross tonnage of 35,736, the GNV PHOENIX is designed to accommodate up to 2,700 passengers across 324 cabins, while also offering 835 lane meters of freight capacity. Before the ferry enters commercial service, it will undergo a comprehensive refitting to align with GNV's high standards for comfort and operational efficiency. Notably, the addition of this vessel significantly bolsters GNV's service capabilities on critical Mediterranean routes, especially those connecting mainland Italy with Sardinia.

New LNG-Powered Vessels Set to Launch

In tandem with the arrival of the GNV PHOENIX, GNV is set to enhance its service network between Italy and Morocco with the introduction of two new LNG-powered vessels, the GNV AURORA and GNV VIRGO. Scheduled to commence operations on June 1 and July 1, 2026, respectively, these ships will traverse the Genoa–Barcelona–Tanger Med route. This strategic move aims to meet the increasing passenger demand, particularly from families and Moroccan communities participating in the annual Marhaba operation, while simultaneously facilitating trade between Italy and Morocco.

Both the GNV AURORA and GNV VIRGO are equipped with advanced LNG propulsion systems, which promise to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50% per transportable load compared to older vessels. Additionally, these ships are prepared for cold ironing, further emphasizing GNV’s commitment to sustainable operations. This fleet expansion not only reflects GNV’s strategy of responsible growth and fleet renewal but also strengthens essential logistics links across the Mediterranean region.
