Government Unveils New Health Facilities in Morocco to Enhance Healthcare Access

Government Initiative to Boost Healthcare Infrastructure

The Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, recently inaugurated two new healthcare facilities aimed at improving healthcare access in the region. This event took place in the presence of key figures, including the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Wali of Marrakech-Safi, and several local stakeholders. The initiative is part of a broader program to rehabilitate primary healthcare institutions across the country, which includes the reconstruction, modernization, and equipping of 1,400 health centers throughout various provinces. The newly opened facilities include the Ait Ourir proximity hospital and the second-level rural health center in Tizart, both located in the Al Haouz region.

During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Akhannouch emphasized that the launch of these healthcare facilities aligns with efforts to enhance the national health system and fulfill royal directives aimed at improving infrastructure and healthcare services. The initiative seeks to bring quality healthcare closer to citizens, particularly in remote areas, by upgrading facilities and human resources to ensure equitable access to health services. This is especially crucial for regions that have historically faced healthcare disparities.

Facility Features and Services

The Ait Ourir proximity hospital is built on an expansive area exceeding 30,000 square meters and boasts a capacity of 45 beds, with a total investment of 85 million dirhams. It is designed to serve approximately 278,000 residents across 16 communities, offering a wide range of medical services, including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, dentistry, general surgery, radiology, and laboratory analyses. In addition to these services, the hospital features modern amenities such as reception areas, waiting rooms, consultation and treatment rooms, a fully equipped maternity ward, and a pharmacy.

Both healthcare facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art biomedical equipment, ensuring that services meet high-quality standards. This investment in healthcare infrastructure is expected to significantly relieve pressure on larger hospitals while enhancing the quality of services available to residents. The improvement of healthcare access, particularly in rural areas, is a critical step towards promoting social equity and improving overall public health outcomes.
