Guinea-Bissau Reaffirms Support for Moroccan Autonomy Initiative

In a recent meeting between João Bernardo Vieira, Guinea-Bissau's Foreign Minister, and Nasser Bourita, his Moroccan counterpart, a strong stance was articulated regarding the issue of territorial integrity and the ongoing dispute over the Sahara region. Vieira emphasized Guinea-Bissau's unwavering commitment to Morocco's sovereignty and reiterated his country's endorsement of the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative. He characterized this initiative as the only practical and credible solution to settle the regional conflicts concerning the Sahara, reflecting a deepening diplomatic relationship between the two nations.

Moreover, Vieira praised the recent adoption of Resolution 2797 by the United Nations Security Council on October 31, 2025. This resolution acknowledges Morocco's autonomy proposal as the singular, serious, and sustainable foundation for achieving a political resolution under Moroccan governance. This significant endorsement from the UN Security Council fortifies the legitimacy of Morocco's approach in resolving the long-standing issues related to the Sahara dispute.
