Guinea-Bissau's Strong Endorsement for Morocco's Sovereignty
In a recent press briefing held in Rabat, João Bernardo Vieira, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of Guinea-Bissau, articulated his country's steadfast support for Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty, particularly concerning the Sahara region. This declaration came during discussions with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Nasser Bourita, underscoring the robust diplomatic ties between the two nations. Vieira emphasized that Guinea-Bissau recognizes Morocco's autonomy initiative as the sole credible and pragmatic solution to the ongoing regional dispute, reinforcing the importance of this approach in fostering stability and peace.
Vieira's remarks also highlighted a significant milestone in international diplomacy—the UN Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025. This resolution acknowledges Morocco's autonomy plan as a legitimate framework for resolving the prolonged dispute over the Sahara, marking a pivotal moment in the quest for a political solution. The minister expressed his satisfaction with this development, viewing it as a serious and lasting basis for addressing the complexities surrounding the Sahara issue.
