The Hassan II University of Casablanca has successfully secured its position within the 901-1,000 range in the prestigious global rankings for the third consecutive year, following its appearances in 2024 and 2025. Notably, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has made a remarkable entry into the overall ranking for the first time, having previously only been recognized in sector-specific rankings by Shanghai.
Comparable Performance Between Both Universities
When it comes to research indicators, both universities exhibit comparable results. In terms of the presence of highly cited researchers (HiCi indicator), both institutions achieved an identical score of 7.4. UM6P slightly surpasses Hassan II in the number of publications in the prestigious journals Nature and Science, with scores of 3.5 and 3.0, respectively. Additionally, UM6P leads in the overall volume of scientific publications recorded, with 19.8 compared to 19.5 for Hassan II, and also performs better relative to the institution's size, scoring 8.9 against 8.8. However, neither university scored points in criteria related to Nobel Prizes or the Fields Medal, whether considering their alumni or faculty members.
UM6P’s Strong Position in Various Disciplines
Apart from the overall ranking, UM6P stands out in several thematic rankings, achieving a spot in the global top 100 for mining and mineral engineering, and ranking among the top 500 institutions in both electrical engineering and agricultural sciences. On the international front, there have been no changes at the top of the rankings: Harvard University continues to hold the number one position, a status it has maintained since the establishment of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in 2003. Stanford University and MIT complete the podium, followed by Cambridge, Berkeley, Princeton, Oxford, Columbia, Caltech, the University of Chicago, and the California Institute of Technology, which collectively form the top 10.
Established annually by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, this ranking evaluates over 2,500 institutions worldwide based on six indicators focused on scientific output, publication impact, and major academic distinctions.
