The Istiqlal Party has officially designated Hassan Sligoua, the president of the Fez Saïs Association, to lead its electoral list in the Northern Fez district, effectively putting an end to the controversy surrounding the selection process. This decision follows the resignation of Abdelmajid Al-Fassi Al-Fihri, the youngest son of former Prime Minister Abbas Al-Fassi, from the House of Representatives.
The leadership of the Istiqlal Party endorsed Sligoua, a prominent member of the party who previously served as a parliamentary advisor and chaired the Fez El Mechouar municipality. Sligoua is also recognized for his political, social, and sports activities and was one of three members who filed a complaint against the Director General of the Spirit of Fez Foundation, accusing him of embezzling public funds.
As the announcement of his candidacy for the Northern Fez list is awaited, competition has intensified among party and union officials for this nomination. Among those mentioned are the regional secretary of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises in Fez and other names, including Mourad Bouzidi, the deputy mayor of Fez.
This endorsement of Sligoua comes shortly after the Istiqlal Party confirmed the candidacy of the current parliamentary member, Allal Al-Amraoui, who is a former deputy mayor of Fez during the era of Abdelilah Benkirane, as the party's candidate for the Southern Fez list. In addition, Hassan Al-Shaibi (Bousna), a former parliamentary member and president of the Ain Qansara municipality, has been appointed as the candidate for the Istiqlal list in the Moulay Yacoub region.
The party has also nominated Ibrahim Al-Ayashi, the president of the Ain Shakkak municipality, as the candidate for the list in Sefrou, and Lahcen Al-Amoud for the Hajeb region. Furthermore, Ahmed Al-Aouina has been named as the candidate heading the party's list in Boulemane, while the favored parliamentary candidate, Al-Tahiri, president of the Tafrant municipality in Gafsay, will lead the list for the village of Bou Muhammad in Gafsay.
Additionally, the party endorsed its parliamentary member, Monir Shantir, as the head of the Istiqlal list in the Taza region. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing regarding the candidacy of Ibn Boucht Boussouf, a parliamentary member of the National Rally of Independents in the Tissa-Taounate district, as the leading candidate for the Istiqlal list in the same district, although the party in Taounate has confirmed that this matter is still undecided.
