In a significant development for the Moroccan judiciary, Hatem Harath has been entrusted with the position of Public Prosecutor at the Fes Court of First Instance, following the confidence placed in him by King Mohammed VI, the President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary. Harath's appointment comes after a distinguished career marked by various pivotal roles within the Public Prosecutor's Office, showcasing his extensive experience and commitment to justice.
Born in June 1973, Harath is an alumnus of the Higher Institute of the Judiciary in Rabat and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Private Law from Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University. He further advanced his expertise by pursuing postgraduate studies in Business Law at Mohammed V University in Rabat. Harath began his professional journey in 1998 as a Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Oujda, and in 2005, he transitioned to the Fes Court of First Instance, where he served as the First Deputy Public Prosecutor until 2021.
During his tenure in Fes, Harath undertook several significant responsibilities, including overseeing cybercrime cases and managing the press division. He also served as the official spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Fes Court and acted as a point of contact for monitoring cybercrime cases and implementing the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. His expertise in this area was further recognized when he was appointed as the Public Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Khénifra in July 2021, where he directly supervised ongoing investigations in cybercrime and led the judicial police's efforts in these cases.
To complement his professional trajectory, Harath has participated in numerous training courses and national and international seminars focusing on combating cybercrime, human rights, environmental protection, women's rights, and alternative sanctions. Notably, he is set to receive a certificate in combating cybercrime and digital evidence in 2025 from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
