Health Crisis in Taounate: A Parliamentary Outcry Over Lack of Ambulances and Serum Supplies
In a shocking revelation, Mohamed El-Hajira, a parliamentary representative from the Party of Authenticity and Modernity for the Al-Qariya Ghafsai district in the Taounate region, has exposed serious deficiencies in the local healthcare system. According to El-Hajira, the entire region of Taounate, despite its vast expanse, is equipped with only two ambulances, one of which is currently out of service. Furthermore, he highlighted the alarming absence of antivenom supplies for snake bites, a significant concern given the rural nature of the area.
El-Hajira took to social media to share his frustrations, detailing an incident where he attempted to assist a ten-year-old girl who had suffered a snake bite. In his efforts to contact the head of the health sector in the region, he was dismayed to learn that the essential medication was unavailable and that no ambulance could be dispatched to transfer the young patient to Fez for emergency treatment.
The parliamentary representative criticized what he termed the inadequate resources allocated for emergency medical services in Taounate. He raised pertinent questions about why the region is limited to merely two ambulances, of which only one is operational. The local population has repeatedly voiced their discontent, with many declaring that "healthcare is in a dire state in Taounate," prompting serious concerns about the professional and administrative accountability within the regional health sector.
In closing his post, El-Hajira extended his gratitude to the local municipalities for their efforts in providing a fleet of ambulances to transport patients, even as he described the overall healthcare situation in the region as being in a state of "complete coma." This alarming situation has underscored the urgent need for a reevaluation of healthcare resources and policies in Taounate, as residents continue to suffer from inadequate medical support.
