Severe Weather Alert: Heat Wave and Storms in Morocco
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange alert bulletin for several provinces across Morocco, anticipating a combination of intense heat and localized thunderstorms from Friday to Monday. During this period, extreme temperatures are expected to soar between 40°C and 43°C in the southern provinces, including Tata, Es-Semara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab. Additionally, a significant heat episode is forecasted for the central and northern provinces, such as Marrakech, Fès, Meknès, Settat, Khouribga, Khémisset, Taounate, Ouezzane, and Sidi Kacem, where temperatures are projected to range from 38°C to 41°C from Saturday to Monday.
In conjunction with these extreme temperatures, local thunderstorms producing rainfall between 15 to 25 mm, along with a potential for hail, are expected on Friday between 1:00 PM and 10:00 PM in the provinces of Beni Mellal, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilal, and Khénifra. Residents in these areas are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions in light of the severe weather conditions.
