Severe Heat Alert in Morocco
According to the Moroccan National Meteorological Directorate, a heat wave is set to impact several regions of Morocco starting May 24, with temperatures potentially soaring to as high as 45 degrees Celsius. This warning comes through an orange alert bulletin, indicating a significant risk for residents in the affected areas. The heat wave is expected to persist from Sunday, May 24, through Wednesday, May 27, particularly affecting regions such as Smara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, Oussard, Tarfaya, Tata, and Laayoune, where temperatures will range between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Regions Facing Extreme Temperatures
The heat wave will also encompass other provinces including Sidi Slimane, Rahamna, Nouaceur, Khemisset, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fkih Ben Saleh, Meknes, Khénifra, Fez, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Ben Slimane, Berrechid, Settat, Chichaoua, Qalaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Larache, Ouezzane, Essaouira, Safi, Guelmim, Taroudant, and Tata, with temperatures expected to range from 37 to 42 degrees Celsius. As the heat intensifies, the Directorate has also noted that from Sunday to Tuesday, May 26, warmer weather will affect provinces such as Agadir, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Tiznit, Rabat, Sale, Temara, Sidi Ifni, Casablanca, Mediouna, Mohammedia, and El Jadida, recording temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees Celsius.
