Severe Heat Wave Forecasted in Morocco
The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology has issued a warning regarding a significant heat wave that is expected to impact several regions of the country starting today, Saturday, and continuing until next Tuesday. The temperatures are projected to peak at a scorching 46 degrees Celsius, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in various provinces.
According to the meteorological advisory, classified as an "orange alert," temperatures are anticipated to range between 42 and 46 degrees during the period from Saturday to Tuesday, particularly in regions such as Assa-Zag, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Oussard, Smara, and Zagora.
In addition to the extreme heat, several areas can expect hot weather with temperatures ranging from 38 to 42 degrees until Monday. These regions include Taounate, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fkih Ben Salah, Meknes, Khenifra, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taroudant, Guelmim, Sidi Qasim, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Settat, and others.
The heat wave will also extend to other areas from Sunday through Monday, including Salé, Essaouira, Kenitra, Berrechid, Ben Slimane, Larache, Chichaoua, Temara-Skhirat, Nouaceur, and El Jadida, where temperatures are expected to be between 38 and 42 degrees.
In contrast to the impending heat, the Directorate has cautioned about the possibility of thunderstorms, with rainfalls ranging from 15 to 25 mm, as well as hail and gusty winds, particularly in the Atlas regions, including Ifrane, Midelt, Boulemane, and Khenifra, expected between 2 PM and 11 PM on Saturday.
