Severe Heatwave Warning for Morocco
The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a strong warning regarding an impending heatwave that is set to affect various regions across the country starting today, Sunday, and continuing through Tuesday. Forecasts indicate that temperatures could soar to as high as 47 degrees Celsius in certain provinces, leading to an orange-level alert being issued.
According to the meteorological agency, temperatures are expected to range between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius from Sunday through Tuesday in the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, Taroudant, Zagora, Errachidia, Oussared, and Boujdour. Additionally, it is anticipated that temperatures will vary between 42 and 45 degrees in Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and Kelaa des Sraghna regions during the same period.
On Sunday and Monday, other provinces, including Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane, Rhamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taourirt, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Jerada, Taza, Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan, are also expected to experience hot weather, with temperatures ranging from 42 to 45 degrees Celsius.
Furthermore, during the same two days, temperatures between 39 and 42 degrees will be recorded in regions such as Sidi Bennour, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inzegan-Ait Melloul, Sidi Ifni, Tiznit, Essaouira, Driouch, Nador, and Oujda Angad, as well as Safi.
The meteorological agency has urged citizens to exercise caution and remain vigilant, especially in the areas highlighted in the alert. It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, considering the significant rise in expected temperatures.
