Severe Disciplinary Actions in Response to Hooliganism
The recent match between AS FAR and Raja Casablanca in the Botola Pro Inwi league faced severe disruptions due to alarming acts of hooliganism. Following these events, the Central Disciplinary Commission has issued a series of significant sanctions against both teams. AS FAR has been sanctioned with five closed-door matches, which notably includes their upcoming clash with WAC. On the other hand, Raja Casablanca will play three consecutive matches without any spectators, which includes a crucial derby set for May 9 at the Mohammed V Complex.
In addition to these match bans, supporters of both clubs are prohibited from traveling for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season. Furthermore, AS FAR is barred from hosting any matches at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat, although they will still be permitted to hold continental and international competitions. This allows the team to host their return leg against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Champions League final on May 24. The damages caused to the complex during the violence will be assessed, and repair costs will be shared between the two clubs.
Each club is also required to pay a fine of 200,000 dirhams due to the actions of their supporters. The disturbances during the AS FAR-Raja match resulted in violent clashes among fans, destruction of property, injuries to law enforcement, and a significant blow to the image of national football.
Legal Consequences and Future Implications
In the aftermath of the violence, the Rabat prosecutor's office has ordered the detention of 136 individuals, including two minors. This response underscores the seriousness of the situation and the local authorities' commitment to tackling such issues. In terms of the match itself, AS FAR secured a victory with a score of 2-1, propelling them to second place in the league standings with 35 points, while Raja Casablanca slipped to third place with 33 points.
