Fatima Zahra El Mansouri Takes the Helm in Morocco

In a groundbreaking development for Moroccan politics, Fatima Zahra El Mansouri has been appointed as the nation's first female prime minister following a significant victory in the recent parliamentary elections. El Mansouri's educational background is as impressive as her political career; she is a trained lawyer with degrees from Mohammed V University in Rabat, as well as studies in France and the United States, where she specialized in business and corporate law. Entering politics after the founding of Pam in 2008, she made history in 2009 by becoming Marrakesh's first female mayor and later returned to the position after the 2021 elections. Her tenure has included significant roles, such as serving as the minister responsible for national territory planning, urban development, housing, and urban policy under former Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. By February 2024, she had ascended to the role of co-ordinator for Pam's leadership coalition, demonstrating her rising influence within the party.
