Historic Stadium in Fes Set for Reconstruction
In a significant development for Moroccan sports infrastructure, the Hassan II Stadium in Fes is officially slated for demolition and reconstruction. This initiative is part of a broader effort to upgrade various national stadiums in preparation for the upcoming 2030 World Cup. The stadium, which has been a cornerstone of local sports culture, will be closed as the demolition process begins, with plans for a complete rebuild expected to take between five to nine months.
The reconstruction aims to enhance the stadium's capacity to accommodate 18,000 spectators and will feature modern amenities designed to provide comfort and safety for fans. The new design will reflect the architectural style of the original stadium while adhering to international safety standards. Construction is already underway at a rapid pace to ensure that the project is completed on schedule, allowing for the stadium to host matches for the local team, Maghreb de Fès, starting from the next football season.
This ambitious project received the green light from Khalid Ait Taleb, the Wali of the Fès-Meknès region, who was present alongside the regional secretary during the announcement. The reconstruction of the Hassan II Stadium represents a significant investment in the city’s sporting infrastructure, aiming to elevate the overall experience for both players and fans alike.
