Hossam Abdel-Latif Reflects on the Match Against Morocco
In a recent post-match discussion, Hossam Abdel-Latif, the head coach of Egypt's under-17 national football team, expressed his disappointment following their loss to Morocco in the opening round of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations. Despite the final score of 2-1 in favor of Morocco, Abdel-Latif firmly believes that his team did not deserve to lose, particularly highlighting their dominant performance during the second half of the match. According to him, the Egyptian players controlled the game’s tempo, especially in the latter stages, which makes the loss feel even more unjust.
Egypt's under-17 team managed to secure a spot in the World Cup despite this setback, finishing as runners-up in their group with a total of four points. The loss against Morocco, however, was marked by two defensive errors that allowed Morocco to score in the first half. Abdel-Latif stated, "We conceded two goals due to defensive mistakes early on, but we completely dominated the match in the second half, yet luck was not on our side." His focus now shifts towards the upcoming quarter-final against Ivory Coast, as they aim to continue their journey successfully after already qualifying for the World Cup.
In the group stage, Morocco topped the table with seven points, while Egypt secured second place with four points, both teams qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar. Ethiopia finished third with four points, leading to a playoff for qualification, while Tunisia ended up in fourth place with only one point, thus exiting the tournament. This match and the subsequent results will certainly shape the future of Egypt's young football talents as they look to make an impact on the international stage.
