Human Rights Advocates Warn Against Pressure to Close Case of Exploitation of Minors in "Ba Mohamed" Village

Human Rights Advocates Call for Protection of Minors

Human rights advocates have raised alarms over attempts by individuals involved in a case concerning the exploitation of minors in the village of Ba Mohamed, expressing concerns that these individuals are exerting pressure to close the case. They have urged judicial authorities to deepen their investigation and prioritize the best interests of children amidst growing public concern regarding this matter.

In an open letter directed to the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Fes, dated Sunday, May 24, 2026, the regional office of the association in the Fes-Meknes region highlighted its monitoring of the case involving a network exploiting minors in Ba Mohamed. This case has reportedly led to the detention of several suspects, including individuals of influence.

The human rights organization emphasized that the severity of the information circulating about the case, alongside what it termed "information received" by the association, raises fears of attempts to influence the judicial proceedings. The letter pointed out that "those involved in this case are trying to exert pressure in every possible way to close the file," referencing the use of various means in their interactions with the families of the minor victims. This has been interpreted as an attempt by some defendants to "buy their silence," with claims that such information is being disseminated locally.

The regional office of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights noted that the increasing fear among the families of the victims has a direct impact on the minor girls involved, leading to what the association described as school dropout rates among these girls. They underscored the importance of public awareness regarding the developments in the prosecution of all individuals implicated in this sensitive issue, particularly given that there are minors involved.

In this context, the association has called on the Attorney General to "enlighten public opinion on the matter" and to ensure that investigations are conducted thoroughly in accordance with current laws. They reiterated the urgent need to protect the best interests of the victims, emphasizing that this case necessitates sensitive handling due to the young age of the victims involved.
