Judicial Scam Unveiled in Kénitra
A shocking case of judicial deception has emerged from Kénitra, where an imam from the Ouezzane region is being sought by police after vanishing from sight. This individual is accused of defrauding a family out of a staggering 110,000 dirhams, promising to leverage his connections within the judicial system to secure the release of their three sons, who were incarcerated for assault. This incident was reported by the daily newspaper Assabah.
The situation escalated when a retired resident of Kénitra approached the father of the three imprisoned brothers, claiming that an imam he knew had influential ties within the judicial community and could facilitate their release. After negotiations, an agreement was reached for the payment of 110,000 dirhams, which the imam insisted be handed over "directly to the prosecutor of the King," as detailed in the weekend edition of Assabah on August 29 and 30.
Subsequently, a meeting was arranged between the detainees' parents and an individual dressed in a suit who presented himself as the King's prosecutor. This fraudster confirmed the arrangement and even went so far as to instruct the parents to await their children's release outside the local prison. However, after an entire day of waiting in vain, the family attempted to contact the intermediary, who claimed that the imam was "in a meeting with high-ranking officials."
Realizing they had fallen victim to a scam, the parents filed a complaint. The intermediary was quickly apprehended and, during interrogation, claimed he had also been deceived by the imam, whom he had previously met in a café near the Kénitra courthouse during another case.
The ongoing investigation has already led to the arrest of two accomplices. The imam, derogatorily referred to as "rouhani" (the charlatan), has ignored the summons from investigators and is now the subject of an active search warrant.
