A Celebration of Denise Masson's Legacy

A new permanent museum space dedicated to the life, work, and intellectual legacy of Denise Masson has been inaugurated in Marrakech. This significant event, supported by the French Institute of Marrakech, saw the attendance of notable figures from both French and Moroccan cultural, research, and artistic communities, including Khatib El Hebil, the wali of the Marrakech-Safi region. Philippe Lalliot, the French ambassador to Morocco, emphasized the importance of this new space, stating that it symbolizes the rich relationship between France and Morocco, particularly on profound subjects. He further highlighted the significant efforts made by the French Institute of Morocco, along with its partners, to renew and modernize cultural cooperation between the two nations.

The inaugurated museum space serves as a platform to showcase Denise Masson's journey, her ideas, and her contributions, echoing her belief that "better understanding is essential for building lasting ties between societies." To celebrate the opening, the Maison Denise Masson is hosting two temporary exhibitions: "Moroccan Interreligiosities" by Manoël Pénicaud in collaboration with the Jacques Berque Center, and "I Have Known God" by Youssef El Mekaoui, in partnership with Gallery 208 Paris-Marrakech. These exhibitions aim to provide insights into the diverse cultural and religious landscape of Morocco, reflecting Masson's commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding.
